Albrecht Dürer

Albrecht Dürer

Albrecht Dürer’s watercolor painting of a hare from 1502, is still a marvel to modern eyes. Animals were not generally considered to be appropriate subjects for serious art until the eighteenth century. Critics felt that the painting of animals was simply a demonstration of technical skill, and works like this were not considered great art pieces. Dürer demolished this opinion in a series of watercolors that have become hugely popular ‘A Young Hare’ is one of the best.
